The hamam in Istanbul
Istanbul has bathed in hamams for more than five centuries: domed marble halls, the warm central göbek taşı stone, a brisk kese scrub and clouds of soap foam. The ritual still lives in two very different settings, the historic Old City and the spas of the city’s grand hotels.
In Sultanahmet, our three traditional rituals take place in historic hamam settings and are booked online, paid at the hamam. Across the Golden Horn in Taksim, the luxury collection at Sheraton Istanbul City Center adds a spa suite with its own hammam and sauna. Further hotel spas, from Taksim to Maslak, are arranged on request.

Sultanahmet or Taksim: which should we choose?
Sultanahmet / Old City is the traditional hamam, bookable online from €98 for two. Taksim is the hotel spa experience: the luxury collection at Sheraton Istanbul City Center, from €260 for two, confirmed on request.
How far apart are they?
About 5 km; usually 20 to 30 minutes by car, depending on traffic.
Do we pay in advance?
No. There is no advance payment and no card online. You pay at the venue.
Are other hotel spas available?
Yes, on request. We check availability with the hotel spa first and reply with the details and price.
